our little G is getting big!

At just over 3 months old, today he weighs 15.5lbs and is 26" long!

Three Months Old!

Tiago has finally hit his three month marker--no longer considered a newborn (sigh). And, we will never forget the night of his third month; he hollered inconsolably for almost an hour (seeming to get upset about being upset). All of mommy's tricks could not calm little Tiago down until he felt ready to be calmed down. He apparently didn't get the memo that babies generally become more easily soothed at three months (oh, no! we hope he doesn't have this backwards). In his defense, he appears to have started teething (!!!) For the past couple of weeks he has been drooling incessantly. Last week he began mouthing at his fists and trying to chew on nearly anything that passed his lips. Needless to say, we are cycling through cold teethers, spit-cloths and bibs like mad!

Tiago is blossoming into such an adorable little character! He is vociferous, opinionated, sweet and charming all wrapped into a bundle of hardy baby. This weekend, he met his great-tios, Pepe and Veronica and his two 2nd cousins, Enzo and Fabio. After waking from a slumber and finding an audience, he was initially startled but he warmed up to the idea of having so many admirer's. I am including a picture of the La Serna family in our dining room and a picture of Tiago's adorable smile as he was being held by tio Pepe.

This weekend, Tiago also enjoyed a visit from great-aunt Karen and great-uncle David. The weather was pleasant and we enjoyed a nice lunch in the courtyard. We snuck this last picture of aunt Karen just before she left (we had to get at least one picture)!

Running with Wolves...or Tar on his Heels?

Tiago, a Nor-Cal baby, makes a desperate attempt to win over his dueling tios' approval (OK, actually, he's doing no such thing, and his tios are not really dueling). Here we see Tiago sporting his tio Miguel's mascot in UNC, Carolina blue and later wearing the bold red of tio Matias' almamater: NC State, Wolfpack. What a gemini?!

Bath Time!

Ever the water baby, Tiago loves his bath time. Here, daddy was able to clandestinely photograph Tiago interacting with mommy (photos taken from the doorway). Not only did he capture a few smiles but he even caught Tiago sticking out his tongue for mommy (sweet)!

Actually, mommy often encourages Tiago to stick out his tongue as part of their oral hygiene game (see video). He seems more than happy to oblige.

It looks as though he loves getting clean almost as much as he enjoys getting dirty!

Another Milestone!

Saturday, August 8th: Tiago rolled successfully from his back to his stomach, propping his elbows under his chest and holding his head high! It was captured on video (but was deemed too long and boring to post on this blog). Nevertheless, we're excited.

(In June, he had managed to flip from tummy to back.)

The Elusive Smile

It is so darn hard to capture his adorable tooth-less grin on camera! It's hilarious how predictably serious he gets when the camera pops into view. I've even begun to keep the camera low, at my side, and ready to fire but the very short (camera) delay that occurs when snapping away is just enough time for the huge grin to turn into a look of skepticism or petulance. BUT! Using my sleuth-like techniques, I have recently managed to capture just a few of his camera-shy grins and would like to share! (Note the "fight the power" "baby pride" fist in the air!)

Also, I am including a tummy-time moment where he sees his own reflection. Tiago is generally disinterested in his own reflection but really enjoys seeing his mommy's reflection next to his. However, after meeting his cousin Micaela, his aunt Natasha and his friend, Diego, he is now quite happy to see other children and therefore he is more interested in his reflection.

Family Weekend

We enjoyed another wonderful weekend with family. The weather was pleasant and Tiago was in a great mood!

Tiago is actually quite familiar with this park (he and mom come here regularly) and he seems to find his zen amongst the oak trees.

Meeting Grandma Naomi

This weekend, Tiago met his grandma Naomi and it did not take him much time to warm right up to her. Mommy had a chance to do some grocery shopping at the local market and was informed by grandma that Tiago did not seem upset at all about her absence and, in fact, enjoyed a leisurely snooze in grandma's arms! It's a little known secret that Tiago's favorite place to nap is in one's loving arms--he's a 100% true cuddle-bug! Next time, mommy may take advantage of Tiago's good nature and leave for longer than one hour!
